The Measure…!

+ God’s measure:

When we speak about God’s measure, we find ourselves in front of an infinite wealth and boundless love. Perhaps you never thought about the size and weight of the waters in the oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, springs and the frozen waters in the snow and the clouds?! Do you know my dear readers that they are all calculated and finely accurate in God’s measure? Listen to what the prophet Isaiah says ” Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand” ( Isaiah 40:12).

Then could you imagine, even for a moment to calculate the length of the sky, it’s width and height with its astronomical values that dazzles the brain ?! … Or what is the volume of the earth’s soil and mud, or if we could put all the mountains and heights of the universe on a scale to know its weight?! … The fact is that God has done that with His measure” Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? ( Isaiah 40:12).

God gives without limit, because of His unlimited love. And His measure has no end, counting without bounds of dimensions and measures. This was declared by Christ in His Gospel when He spoke of the gifts of the Holy Spirit” For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure” ( John 3:34).

From here, O beloved of the Lord, let us ask- as sons- of our Heavenly Father, without shame, to fill us with His Spirit according to His riches in glory. We do not ask for worthless earthly matters, which are given by God to man, animals, plants and earth bearers without asking. Enter ye children of the King into His presence with royal requests for you are invited to the eternal inheritance. Hear the advice the Lord to Ahaz concerning supplication” Moreover the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.” ( Isaiah 7:10-11).

God’s measure with us depends on our hearts’ measure towards others” Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” ( Luke 6:38)… There is also a serious Godly judgment for those who condemn and judge others” For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you” ( Matthew 7:2).

My beloved, it is in our hands to decide how to take from the Lord’s measure. Either by giving or scarcity and drought. Either by forgiveness and innocence or by judgment… It is all up to us.

There’s also God’s measure for discipline. When we do not listen to His commandments and submit to His living Word, and waste our life in the eye’s and body’s Lusts and the arrogance of wealth. And when we turn our face away from Him, ignoring His warnings, and running away from facing the light of His commandments, then there is no escape from His discipline until we cry in repentance saying” O Lord God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people? You have fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in great measure” ( Psalm 80:4-5). Repentance my brethren is the only way out to escape this bitter measure.

+ Man’s measure:

Man also has his measures. But God puts His standards to it so that it does not deviate from the truth. And God has placed those standards that we may receive a blessing from God. After the Israelites came out of the land of bondage in Egypt, God commanded them to” You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord your God is giving you” ( Deuteronomy 25:15).

The question for us now is, what about our honesty in the sales and purchases transactions and commitment to the promises in terms of money, trust and the rights of others in wages and salaries?! What about commercial fraud and hiding the truth to make money in any way even if it was illegal? What about the right of the state and dealing with money honestly and in righteousness?! Then how dare us cover this injustice by going to church and worshipping God with a dishonest heart, to numb our consciences from reprimanding us about the misfortunes of the love of money, fraud and dishonesty?! Have a serious pause with yourselves and sincerely repent before God, restoring the rights of all whom we have wronged?!!… In Zacchaeus we have a wonderful example of repentance ” Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” ( Luke 19:8).

One thing that saddens the heart of God, is to be with double standards. Having two opinions and a divided heart. For this reason, the Lord commanded us in His Book” You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small” ( Deuteronomy 25:-4). This is to say that our morals do not change according to persons, circumstances or places. But be faithful with everybody according to the divine truth.

Perhaps the success of Joseph- who the Lord was with him- was because of his honesty that did not change according to different circumstances. He was faithful to Potiphar and in front of his wife, having the same standards with all. In prison, the prison chief handed him the responsibility of the prisoners. And in his interpretation to the cupbearer’ and chief baker’s dreams he did not change his words to satisfy them, but said the truth even If it was harsh. This young man scorns our dishonesty and division of thoughts because of our double standards. Our measures changes with every circumstance.

At church we put on the veil of holiness and in our daily lives, our actions show scum, greed and fraud. The time is now short and we must repent. All things are exposed before the eyes of the Lord, who has us and our lives in His hands. Everything we do in secret is recorded accurately before the eyes of God. It is only through heartfelt repentance that we could pass this wrath ” I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” ( Luke 13:5).

Finally, God loves that we treat others with the riches of His love for us, not by the law of eye to eye and tooth to tooth. Although that was the law in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit spoke on the mouth of Solomon the wise saying” Diverse weights and diverse measures, They are both alike, an abomination to the Lord” ( Proverbs 20:10)…. As the Children of Christ we follow His steps He who” when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously” ( 1 Peter 2:23)….

The Book asks us to ” not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing” ( 1 Peter 3:9). Also, Saint Paul says” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” ( Romans 12:21).
